This is a terrible message to send out to Christians. This country has a love affair with guns, and even Christians are now trying to find ways to use scripture to defend and justify their love for guns.
If Christ were in the United States today, what caliber handgun would he carry?

I think Pastor Mike was just trying to show what the Bible says about self-defense. If the sword was the “gun” of the 1st century as Luke 22 describes, then the self defense discussion probably needs to address guns. I know some people get obsessed about their guns, which is probably unbiblical, but despite the culture’s obsession it does not appear biblically wrong to defend yourself against crime with a gun.
