Modern culture is still inundated with idols, as each day people pursue goals which the one and only true God can truly and completely supply.
It is always more costly than we think to follow our wayward enticements, and to turn away from obedience to Christ’s life-giving words.
Because the heart’s central loyalty will have eternal consequences, we must heed the warnings of Scripture and ask God to rewire our hearts to value him above any and all other treasures.
We must realize that both God and money demand our total allegiance, and, as always, trying to devote our ultimate love or service to anything but God is sinful idolatry and always a rip off.
While our biological families can be a great blessing to our Christian life, we must be prepared because they can easily pose a challenge to us keeping Christ as the unrivaled Lord of our lives.
We must continually police our hearts to ensure that we are accurately worshiping the real Christ with a reverent urgency regarding our task to obey him and serve him in this world.
All people are culpable before God because our sin has involved a rejection of God, a willful rationalization and a love of folly over wisdom!
Before we trust Christ to get eternal life we should count the cost of following Jesus and be ready with the Holy Spirit’s help to let God be God for the rest of our lives.
We cannot benefit from the real gospel unless we have a basic understanding of the real God.
